smarts backorder policies 

We at SMARTS  value your business very much and to that end, we are committed to providing excellent service to you.   In an effort to answer any questions you may have about SMARTS’ backorder procedures, we’d like to share with you, the following information.

SMARTS likes backorders about as much as our customers do.  We don’t like our customers to have to wait for their product; unfortunately at certain times of the year, especially during the months of August, September & October, backorders may occur.

When we do the bulk of our stock ordering in late Spring and early Summer, it is very hard for us at SMARTS to anticipate exactly what our customers will be ordering come the Fall.  We order in a great deal of stock to allow for enough stock-on-hand however we find that 5 or 10 items every year seem to be a “hot item” and we will run out.   

SMARTS carries quite a number of publishers and manufacturer’s product and to that end, we pride ourselves in the fact that we can source out almost any title or resource for our customers.  However, some special order items do take time to come in, sometimes up to 4 to 6 weeks. 

The terms under which we order from our publishers are quite strict – there is a minimum order that we need to meet before an order can be placed.  For that reason, SMARTS usually needs to get a number of items together before we can place the order with the publisher or manufacturer.  

We strive to place an order with each of our publishers, at the outside, every two weeks. Each order takes 10 to 20 days to arrive to our store.  After we receive the backorders, we make every attempt to send them out to our customers  within 24 to 48 hours.   That all being said, backordered out-of-stock items or special item requests can take up to 4 weeks from the time you order to the time you receive your product. 

As a token of our appreciation for your patience with backorders, SMARTS guarantees that all backordered items will be shipped complimentary to you.

You will be notified immediately of any items that are backordered.  On the bottom of your invoice that you receive with your initial shipment, you will see noted, any backorders what may exist on your order.   If you choose to cancel any of the backordered items listed on the invoice, you simply need to call SMARTS and we will handle the request for you.

One suggestion that may help reduce the possibility of backorders - if possible, we  encourage families to plan early for the following year by registering or enrolling with their DL Program in late Spring or early Summer.  Try to get your Student Learning Plans done at that time for your child(ren) and work with your teacher to get a “wish list” of resources together to supporting the Student Learning Plan.  The wish list can then be forwarded to SMARTS; we can then order in the requested resources and have them ready for you well before the new school year begins.

We collect anonymous information about every visit to our site by tracking Internet Protocol (IP) addresses on an aggregate basis. We do not link IP addresses to any personal information associated to an individual visitor. We use this information only to track the number of distinct user sessions to our website.

Though our site contains links to many other websites, we are not responsible for the content, website links, or privacy policies on any of those websites.


Third-Party Affiliations

Many of our products and services are provided by third-parties with which we are affiliated with. Although we sell their products and services directly from our website, we are not responsible for their privacy policies or any information contained on their websites. Please view their separate privacy policies concerning how they will handle any information you submit to them. For assistance with any products or services that you obtain through one of our third-party affiliates, please contact their support departments directly. That information can be found on their separate websites.


Returns & Refunds

  • Returns must be made within 10 days of receipt for a full refund except postage. After 10 days all returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
  • No returns will be accepted after 30 days.
  • All returns must be accompanied by a copy of the invoice showing both the date and invoice number. Postage must be prepaid on all returns.
  • We do not accept collect shipments.
  • Returns must be in new and unused condition. If they are returned damaged, written in, or with eraser marks we cannot accept them.
  • We cannot accept software, CD or DVD/video returns for any reason but factory defect and only then in exchange for an identical product.

Please ensure returns are packed and wrapped carefully to prevent damage.


Shipping & DELIVERY

Most orders will be shipped within 48 hours of receipt of order. Expect delays during the months of July - September because of the volume of materials processed on a daily basis. Items that are temporarily out of stock will be back ordered and shipped as they become available (usually within 30 days or less). These items will be charged on back order invoice.

  • We ship ANYWHERE via CANADA POST and your purchases are bundled/packed and calculated accordingly. 

·         Orders up to $50.00 = $6.00 Post + 5% Handling

·         Orders up to $100.00 = $10.00 Post + 5% Handling

·         Orders up to $150.00 = $12.00 + 5% Handling

·         Orders up to $200.00 = $10.00 + 5% Handling

·         Orders up to $250.00 = $7.50 + 5% Handling

·         Orders above $251.00 = $5.00 + 5% Handling

  • All prices are in Canadian funds. Please inquire via email or phone for any international orders.

  • There is an additional $6.00 charge for all COD orders. Your shipping options upon purchase will show this charge.

  • All orders are subject to 5% GST.

  • All orders must be prepaid. You may use a cheque, money order, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, PAY PAL or COD. All COD orders are paid in cash to the post office upon delivery. If the order is refused or returned to us you will be liable for any expenses that we have incurred.

All prices published or implied are subject to change without prior notice. We will try to honour prices whenever we can but we are at the mercy of the publishers.


CURRENCY

All our pricing and transactions are conducted in CANADIAN DOLLARS. Online Credit Card purchases are processed through INTERNET SECURE.  All other Credit Card purchases are made through TD Merchant Visa.


SECURITY

All information and transactions are conducted in secure SSL, 128 bit encryption and online credit card purchases are processed through INTERNET SECURE.
